Welcome to Montgomery – The Birthplace of the Texas Flag

Steeped in history and Texas pride, Montgomery is one of the oldest towns in the state. It began as a trading post in 1826 and was officially chartered in 1837. As the first county seat of Montgomery County—the third county established under the Republic of Texas—our town holds a special place in Texas history. Montgomery is also proudly recognized as the birthplace of the iconic Texas Lone Star Flag.

Nestled at the crossroads of Texas 105 and FM 149, Montgomery sits near the southwestern edge of the Sam Houston National Forest. Conveniently located just 15 miles west of Conroe and 50 miles northwest of Houston, our town offers both small-town charm and easy access to the greater Houston area.

We invite both visitors and residents to explore Montgomery’s rich history, charming streets, and vibrant community. Whether you’re strolling through our historic parks, browsing unique antique shops, or enjoying a meal at one of our casual or upscale restaurants, Montgomery has something for everyone. Our thoughtfully planned neighborhoods provide a welcoming place to call home.

To those who already call Montgomery home—thank you! And to those considering a visit or relocation, we encourage you to experience the charm, history, and hospitality that make Montgomery truly special. We can’t wait to welcome you!
